Viva Viagra! Are TV Commercials Bias to Men?
I’m not one to watch TV commercials but lately I have been paying attention to them because sometimes they are funny. However, the comical one’s didn’t catch my eye yesterday, it was the "serious" commercials about health issues that made me wonder. Is men’s health taken as serious as women’s? The commercials that air the most pertain to women being on top of their healthcare by getting regular pap smears, getting the HPV vaccine, or birth control (YAZ). The commercials that are aired for men are about Viagra or Cialis. For me, it suggest that men are only concerned with their sexual performance rather than their overall health.
Am I the only one who thinks this?
It’s just food for thought, you can do the dishes (I don’t want to mess up my nails).

What Would You Do?
Every Tuesday night at 10 PM I watch John Quiñones What Would You Do?
It is series of reports that test human nature through hidden cameras. After watching the show last night, I begin to think of some of my past experiences.
During my sophomore year of high school, I was riding a sparsely full D train home while reading a book. From time to time, I would look up to be sure that I didn’t miss my stop. As the train approached 59th Street, I looked up and I saw a male sitting across from me. This man, approximately 40 years of age, was fondling his genitals. I figured that he was just scratching or "fixing his package." I noticed that he was looking at me with a flirtatious smirk on his face. Some men are always gawking at women inappropriately. Usually once you turn away and don’t give them any attention they move on to their next prey. So after glancing down to see if maybe my school shirt was unbuttoned, I quickly looked away, and continued to read my book. As the train slowly approached 125th Street, I looked up again and that’s when I saw that this predator was sitting there masturbating while looking at me. He had his entire, erect penis out groping it. I went numb and I couldn’t move or say anything. I was angry, embarrassed, shocked, and scared. I was VIOLATED. I gave him a sharp, cold look. I shouted to get someone’s attention on the train, but no words came out. As soon as the train pulled in to the station, he ran out the doors and vanished. It happened so fast that I didn’t have time to do anything. For the rest of my train ride, I wondered if anyone else on the train saw what occurred. Now that I think of it, there was no way possible that no one didn’t.
So I ask why not say something when you see something?
Unfortunately, this wouldn’t be the last time that I was violated in public. One late summer day, I had scheduled to meet up with friends to go running. I decided to go to the park and warm up while I waited for them to arrive. As I walked towards the park, I could see a yellow taxi driving up the hill. I took a sip of water and called my friends again to let them know I was waiting. As I put on my backpack, I looked around and I saw that the taxi backed up. I also noticed a young man with a white tee, doo rag, and a fitted NY cap walking away from a trash bin. I figured that he had just thrown his trash out. I continued to look at the young man because he was looking at me. I didn’t have on anything special. Just a cocoa brown velour track suit. I thought "Dang, he’s still trying to holla even if I have on my workout clothes." Just as I put my headphones in my ear and turned my Ipod on full blast, I saw him running towards me with NO PANTS ON. As he ran, he took his white tee off and continued to come towards me in a light blue thong. I immediately began running as I took off my backpack, and took my phone out to dial 911. I shouted "I’m calling the cops." He didn’t care. He ran towards me faster. He reached his hands out to me like he was going to choke me. Fortunately, a woman was driving alongside the park and she stopped with a confused look on her face. She rolled down her window to ask me about the situation. While I was explaining to her what happened, he got into the taxi and sped off. Thankfully, the woman made sure that I got home okay. If it weren’t for her, I would have gotten attacked.
Do you think that it was the right or wrong thing for her to do? Would you have done the same?

Beauty
Cover Girl Ain't Got Nothing on Her
Move over Cover Girl, there's a new Sexy Sister in town. This curvaceous beauty is going to turn heads and make many drool with her hourglass figure. Her name is Buxom Lash Mascara, and I discovered her while shopping at Sephora on 5th Avenue between 48th and 49th street.
Buxom Lash Mascara is the Sexy Sister of Bare Minerals. Buxom is very appealing and does everything as promised. It’s a nice, light mascara that holds the style of your lashes up to 12 hours. I absolutely love the hourglass shape of the wand. When I applied it, I immediately noticed that each single lash was coated and gave more volume than Cover Girl’s LashBlast Mascara. I could feel the bristles of the wand combing through each lash to create a very full, sexy look. Buxom Lash Mascara is a must have although it’s a bit pricey. It’s $18. But trust me, it’s worth every penny.
Also, while I was in Sephora, I decided to see if I could find any other must-haves. I know that Spring is here (although it doesn’t feel like it outside) so I decided to see what’s hot. One of Sephora’s color consultant and beauty insider, Joy, provided me with some beauty tips for ladies and men that will make you stand out from the rest of the "Plain Jane’s" and "Average Joe’s" in the crowd. I can relate to each tip that she provided.
Beauty Tips for the Ladies:
1. Change your skincare regimen.
The winter requires heavy moisturizers and creams. For Spring, change to a new cleanser and lighter moisturizer. Use a moisturizer with sunscreen. Last month, I changed my cleanser and moisturizer to Ambi. I’m so amazed by the results. My face is so smooth and clear. I have a healthy glow that makes me feel and look refreshed all day. After washing my face in the morning and evening, I always use moisturizer. In the past, I would never do this and it would cause my skin to look dull and break out.

2. No heavy makeup. Skip the foundation.
I usually don’t wear foundation. I don’t like the way it rubs off on my clothes. Also, it makes me feel like I can’t breathe. Is it something I’m doing wrong? I was so overwhelmed by all of the beauty products in Sephora that I forgot to ask Joy. Maybe one of you ladies can tell me your secret to wearing foundation. Do you have a favorite brand?

3. Never wear a bold eye with a bold lip.
I prefer to wear a bold eye shadow because I don’t really enjoy having deep colors on my lips. To me, dark reds and burgundies make me look old if not applied properly. Since I don’t have a personal makeup artist to follow me around all day like a celebrity, I stay away. I will use pinks and bright colors for the season to make my eyes pop. Pink eye shadows make my medium brown eyes sparkle. Do you have any favorite colors/brands that stand out from the crowd?

Beauty Tips for the Men:
1. Use moisturizer with sunscreen.
According to Joy, many males think that moisturizing is just for females. She recommends that males take care of their facial skin as well. She says that moisturizer with sunscreen actually can protect a mans face if he cuts himself while shaving. The moisturizer will act as a protector from the sun. Nothing is sexier than a man who takes care of himself. Am I right ladies?

2. Use a lip balm.
While in Sephora, I was able to snag a Fresh Sugar Lip Balm with SPF 15. This is a universal lip balm that can be used by males and females. It smells and taste so delicious. It glides on smooth. Unfortunately, it’s a bit pricey so many of you may want to stick to your boring, old, drugstore ChapStick. I do suggest that you splurge a little because what woman wants to kiss someone with dry, flaky lips? Ewww, such a turn off!

3. Change from a heavy cologne to light, fresh cologne.
Joy recommends, Sean John I am King or Calvin Klein Eternity Summer. I sampled the CK and it smells very nice and cool. However, the smell of a cologne changes with each persons individual body chemistry. So what smells good on one man, may smell not so good on another.

I hope that Joy and my tips will help you feel and look fabulous this Spring. If there are any tips that you have or products that you swear by let me know. I love trying new things.
